Thank you for ordering custom Xena boots!  The method used by the New Zealand craftsmen when making boots for many of the main characters in Xena and Hercules was to build a pair of simulated boots over a pair of comfortable and practical sneakers. This had a definite comfort advantage for the actors who had to work long hours in these boots.

I will be making your custom boots the same way.  You will need to send me a pair of sneakers to build your boots on. They don't have to be new. Below are some pictures to illustrate the style shoe that will make the best-looking pair of Xena boots.

Basic Ked. Too small and thin. Your boots will look a little pointy and wimpy.
The toe is too square and high. Your boots will come out with chunky looking toes.
These two shoes are way-too-big. The soles are too thick and your boots will look like they belong on Herman Munster. The soles protrude a great deal, which will show through through the boot. Hard details on the uppers (like the speed-lace loops and molded logos) can't be taken off and will show through the boot. Another thing to avoid is elaborate raised design in the leather uppers.
Running shoes with wedge-shaped soles aren't a great choice. The shape of the sole shows through.
These two shoes are close to the ones used inside the TV show boots. Both are padded without being extreme, offer good support and comfort. They both have a nice rounded toe, and don't have too much oversize sole detail.  Unlike the wedge-shaped soles, these give a good, smooth transition between the upper and sole.
If you already have a pair of suitable sneakers, then great!  You're all set (assuming you want to give them up for your boots).  Otherwise, you need to run down to your local Wal-Mart and pick up a pair.  They don't need to be expensive shoes.

When you've got them, wrap them up and send them to me.  Here's my address:
