In this life, there are certain things that just should not be done. Overweight men in speedos come to mind (regretfully). Kevin Costner attempting a British accent is another. But the main thing in this life that should not ever be done is dressing up like a warrior princess without these kneeguards. Trust me on this one. I'm not going to tell you all of the secrets of their construction, because then I would have to kill you (my death-ray equipped satellites are watching you right now). But as a point of interest, part of the "look" of the finished pieces depends a great deal on an athletic knee pad that is hidden inside. Unfortunately, they are of a type that aren't easy to get in this country, so I have to make my own from scratch! On the outside, they are coved with genuine cowhide and embossed with a lovely raised design. After assembling with antiqued rivets, the completed knee guards get a weathered paint treatment. One pair of knee guards has 70 individual pieces (that's a lot of cutting!), four types of fabric, and 100 rivets! They slip over the top of a boot around the knee. The boots pictured here are not included, but are also available. If you want me to make you a pair, I will make them to your own measurements. |
